The Common Short Code Potential: Picking Apart the Pieces of the PuzzleTime: Sep. 11, 2008 from 3:00 PM to 3:55 PM
Location: Room 2008
The wireless industry has seen an increase in the breadth of 3rd party, off-portal content driving highly accelerated revenue growth for various businesses including wireless carriers. Most of this content is delivered via common short code, which has enabled the creation of an entirely new mobile business model. As the stakes of this business continue to rise many in the industry are working to ensure its long-term sustainability. Some of these developments include a fully sustained process for secure and provisioning a short code, a code of consumer best practices, which dictates the dos and don’ts of consumer interaction, and the recent addition of monitoring, which ensures that each short code campaign is in compliance and running according to submitted specifications.
This session examines the value of each piece of this end-to-end process and considers many of the burning questions raised by each stakeholder, including: What is the benefit of a uniform Registry process? What is the value of establishing best practices and monitoring compliance? What is the price of non-compliance? Why is monitoring vital to the long-term sustainability of this business? What can be done to shorten the length of time it takes to provision a short code?

Location: Room 2008
Consumers are just beginning to realize the many capabilities available via the mobile device beyond voice. Even as the medium continues to develop as an engaging and effective marketing solution, barriers constructed by customers, brands, marketers and service providers have slowed mobile marketing acceptance. Some of the more noteworthy issues include advertising recall and acceptance, the use of ad networks instead of buying direct from a mobile publisher, and the recognition that mobile is an interactive solution very different from impression based solutions such as print, television, and radio. This panel sets the record straight on misunderstood portions of the mobile paradigm and provides the truth to springboard mobile growth.
